For desktop publishing/layout, we use InDesign
on a PC and
then convert the files to Adobe Acrobat's PDF format, which is compatible with
all printers, both personal home printers and large professional industry
printers. This format is also Internet friendly, so it doesn't matter whether
you have an Apple, a PC, or an account at Kinko's, everyone can view, read, and
print PDF files.
For photography and photo manipulation, we use
Adobe Photoshop, Corel PhotoPaint, Paint Shop Pro, and several smaller
programs, which are all similar,
but each program has some unique special effects that are specific to that
program. That's why we use them all.
For graphics, we use Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw,
Freehand, and a number of smaller unknown software programs for drawing and illustration
with many hundreds of plug-in "special
effects" that we have collected throughout the years from various sources.
In addition, we have over 5,000 legally licensed
fonts/typefaces plus legal access to over 3 million stock art images (some we
own & some we buy or lease), plus an extensive
library of our own personal photographs, which we have scanned and cataloged for stock images and resource materials.
For straight
documentation, books, or manuals, which do not require sophisticated graphic
design, photography, or page layouts, we use Microsoft Word. We also use (here in the office)
all of the other Microsoft products. Software and hardware compatibility is not
an issue; however, because we have several experienced computer programmers (12+ years),
we can convert any file to any format.
So if you have an Apple, Windows, Linux, or Unix system, we are still compatible.
